Biography, Battles and Bernard

Bernard Parks Documentary

I edited and co-produced “Biography, Battles and Bernard,” a feature documentary exploring the life of Bernard Parks and his fifty-year career with the City of Los Angeles. Directed by Parks’ son, Bernard Parks, Jr., this program traces his career from joining the LAPD in 1965, to his tenure as Chief of Police, and his twelve-year service as a Los Angeles City Councilmember.

The documentary features a range of revealing interviews with Parks, his family and a wide range of noted figures in the recent history of the City, including former Mayor Richard Riordan, former Councilmembers Jan Perry and Richard Alatorre, and former County Supervisor and Congress person Yvonne Brathwaite Burke,

People Magazine names Parks one of the “50 Most Beautiful People” of 1998

In this rare footage, Parks is honored by the African American community on the occasion of his elevation to LAPD Commander. Guests included Maya Angelou, Alex Haley…and a then largely unknown Johnnie Cochran.
